When I was 21, I was engaged to be married but knew in my gut that God had someone else for me. I finally had the courage after three months to call off my engagement. I believe without a shadow of doubt it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. If I hadn’t said “no” to marrying the first man I was engaged to, I would not have been able to say yes to the most incredible man I have ever met in my life! Sometimes you have to say no to something good for God to give you something great!
This is a lesson not only in romantic relationships but also in all areas of life. If I hadn’t said “no” to going to college like everyone else to pursue my passion for photography full-time, I would not have owned my business for eight years now. It wasn’t easy to start something from scratch to create a living, but I now have the greatest career in the world.
This year I had to removed a family member from my life, this was probably as hard as ending my engagement. It’s not always a possibility to do, but for me, I knew that the relationship was affecting so much of my life negatively. Although it has been difficult, it was the best choice to have the peace in my life that I needed.
You can’t please everyone, so don’t ever be afraid of others opinions when it comes to decisions that alter your destiny. I couldn’t ask for a better life, but there were most definitely sacrifices that had to be made to be where I am today. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing!
Are there some things that you need to say “no” to in order to get where you need to be? Be encouraged that life is so much better on the other side of those tough decisions!
